BLOOMINGTON, ILL – June 28, 2012 – With the July 1 official registration and planning deadline only days away, the third annual Illinois Yield Challenge is well underway with nearly 50 teams and 300 plots across the state confirmed.  Created by the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) and funded by the Illinois soybean checkoff, the Yield Challenge invites Illinois soybean farmers to collaborate with team members and sponsors to strategize and test new yield-enhancing production practices.  By exchanging ideas and techniques, participants work together on experimenting and evaluating the best methods for maximizing their profitability.

"It is always exciting to see how the Yield Challenge brings growers together," says Ross Prough, soybean farmer from Greenfield, Ill., and ISA vice chair for yield.  "Even though it primarily is viewed as a competition, we don't see it that way.  We view it as a learning experience for the participants.  It really is remarkable to witness how beneficial the networking and exchange of information and ideas is to them."

To ensure continued success of the program and all participants, ISA encourages businesses that serve the Illinois soybean industry to get involved as sponsors.  Among the many companies that are showing their support for the 2012 Yield Challenge by sponsoring one or more teams are Ag Venture PureLine, AgriEnergy Resources, BASF, Bayer CropScience, Beck's Hybrids, BioSoil Enhancements, Brimfield Ag, CPS, eMerge Genetics, FS HiSoy, FHR-U-Trough, FMC, Gavilon Fertilizer, GROWMARK, Helena Chemical, Merschman Seed, Monsanto, Naturym, Novozyme, Pioneer, Rosen's Inc., Stine Seed, Stoller USA, Syngenta and Winfield Solutions.

In addition, several retailers and team leaders are supporting the Yield Challenge by donating products and offering agronomic advice to competing teams.  These agribusinesses include Ag Land FS, Ag Tech, Ag View FS, Brimfield Ag, Chem Gro, Christian County FS, CPS Blandinsville, CPS Ferris, Ehler Bros. Co., Indian Creek Watershed, Lakeland Industries, Lukach Pioneer Agency, Northern Partners Co-op, Peine, Inc., Shipman Elevator, South Central FS, Southern FS, Sunrise, The Good 5th, Wabash Valley FS, West Central FS-Hancock and West Central FS-McDonough.

Complete details about the Yield Challenge, including information on how it works and the pricing structure, is found at www.soyyieldchallenge.com.  Interested growers and sponsors may contact Yield Challenge Coordinator Jim Nelson at 309-825-7542 or yieldchallenge@ilsoy.org.
