Keynote Speakers
John C. Baize -- President of John C. Baize and Associates, an international agricultural trade and policy consulting firm that specializes in the oilseeds sector -- will discuss what has led to the unprecedented growth in global soybean demand in the last decade that has led to record prices, primarily focusing on China. He then will look at whether the growth in global will continue in the face of economic problems in Europe, the U.S. and possibly China, as well as touch on which other countries may see strong demand in the future. Baize's clients include the U.S. Soybean Export Council, Qualified
State Soybean Boards, agribusiness firms, agricultural trade
associations and investment firms. Prior to establishing his own firm
in 1989, Baize served for over 10 years head of the American Soybean
Association's (ASA) Washington Office. Prior to joining the ASA, Baize
served as a member of the staff of the Office of the U.S. Trade
Representative (USTR) where he was involved in several aspects in the
Tokyo Round of GATT negotiations. Baize also served for four years on
the staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on
Agriculture.
Farming 4,000+ acres of corn and 600 acres of soybeans in seven of Missouri's southwest counties, Kip Cullers is the definition of a progressive soybean grower. In 2006, Kip set the world record for soybean yields when he harvested 139 bushels per acre in his contest fields. The next year, he broke his own yield record by harvesting 154 bu/acre. In 2010, Kip decided -- in his own words -- to "start from scratch" with his growing practices for soybeans. After completely changing all he did to grow soybeans, Kip set another world record of 160.6 bu/acre. During the last four years, Kip has spoken with growers all over the U.S., sharing what he continues to learn about raising the corn and soybean yields on his farm.
Based out of Iowa City, Iowa, John McGillicuddy is a 30-year veteran agronomist who is known as one of the nation's high-yield corn experts. Although his education was in chemistry, he has more than 20 years of experience in research related to hybrids and fertility, weed science and more. He applies this extensive background toward helping his farmer clients throughout several states solve a myriad of production problems. In recent years, McGillicuddy has expanded this expertise to include ways to improve soybean yields, having spoken on the subject at numerous conferences.

Today he works with the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and University of Illinois Extension producing a weekly radio and television feed that highlights the people, the science and the technology of Illinois agriculture. The feeds are picked up and used in one way or another by about 70 broadcast outlets reaching more than three million listeners or viewers each week. Todd also hosts two programs for WILL AM-580, including The Closing Market Report, which airs at 2:06 p.m. CST every business day of the year, and Commodity Week, which airs at 11:30 a.m. CST. |
